The Big Windows IT Pro News!

Hi All,

Now and then we decide to announce big events in a Stu's News format. And this time, I have really BIG news for you indeed. You probably are all familiar with Windows IT Pro Magazine, formerly Windows NT mag. It's actually the biggest professional Windows community in the world. Every year, WinITPro has their Readers' Choice Awards. Call 'em the 'Oscars for Windows Software' and you're close...

In twelve broad categories, Windows professionals all over the USA and Canada voted for the products they simply like the best. This year, six of our products got an unprecedented eight(!) Readers' Choice Awards in the following categories:

Overall: Best Software - iHateSpam for Exchange(tm)
Rookie of the Year - CounterSpy Enterprise(tm)
Best Spyware Blocker - CounterSpy Enterprise
Best Antispam/Server - iHateSpam for Exchange
Best Antispam/Client - iHateSpam(tm)
Best Vulnerability Scanner - Sunbelt Network Security Inspector(tm)
Best Network Analyzer - LanHound(tm)
Best Monitoring and Alerting Software - ServerVision(tm)

More than 1,700 readers chose the best among more than 750 products and services. I'd like to personally thank you for voting for us, and we're honored to have won in so many categories.

"The Windows IT Pro Readers' Choice Awards are highly coveted in the IT industry because our readers, who are the buyers and users of these products, are the ones who choose the winners," said Kim Paulsen, group publisher of Penton Media's Windows IT Pro Group. "These awards are the ultimate acclamation an IT company can earn from its peers in the IT community."

We will give each award winning product a small highlight, and give you the link to the full description on the WindowsITPro website!

CounterSpy Enterprise - Rookie of the Year/Best Spyware Blocker

The winner of this year's Rookie of the Year award is Sunbelt Software's CounterSpy Enterprise, software that can detect and delete spyware. Spam used to top administrators' annoyance list, but now spyware is quickly surpassing it. Unethical companies are constantly creating new spyware for financial gain, and cybercriminals change their malicious code regularly to try to escape discovery. Both unethical companies and cybercriminals are waging a battle for your surfing and buying habits. Internet advertisers want to know where you click, and others are trying to steal your identity and credit card information.

It's likely that your personal computer has been infected with several spyware products and can't get rid of these by itself. Symptoms that your computer has been infected with spyware vary from slower Internet connection speeds, unwanted pop-up ads when you're not even on the Internet, changes in your Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) home page, or the slowing of your PC to a crawl. Given the number of readers that voted for this product, its CounterSpy to the rescue!...

Consumer version iHateSpam and iHateSpam for Exchange - Best AntiSpam / Client and Best AntiSpam/Server

What could be more fun than compliance? Dealing with spam, of course. The sheer number of votes cast for our Best Antispam/Client and Best Antispam/Server awards tells us how much you enjoy that chore. And by a landslide, the winner in both categories was Sunbelt Software. The company's iHateSpam product, which also won this year's Best Software award.

ServerVision - Best Monitoring and Alerting Software

It was a neck-to-neck race for the Best Monitoring and Alerting award. Sunbelt Software's ServerVision won by a nose—by just one vote—over the second place winner Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005. In fact, one systems administrator compared these two programs, saying that ServerVision "has much of the functionality we've been drooling over...

Microsoft says it is retooling its certifications. What's your biggest gripe about the current certification program?

Not enough credit for "real world" experience

        It's too easy

        It's too hard

It doesn't translate to higher pay

I'm happy with the current system
